An engaging and informative art experience.
Saturday Art School provides an opportunity for children to experience visual and dramatic arts instruction in supportive, small group settings. Activities involve basic artistic processes and are designed around a new theme each term. The Fall 2025 program will offer three visual arts courses, one each for children in grades K–1, 2–3, and 4–6. The dramatic arts will include one section for grades 1–4.
Children in each visual arts course will explore a range of different art materials and may experience techniques such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and sculpture. Children in the dramatic arts course will perform in a play based on the children’s book Going Places by Peter and Paul Reynolds. Students of any reading or theater experience level are encouraged to attend.
As a grand finale, we proudly host an exhibition to showcase the magnificent work of all our students, giving children and parents a moment to celebrate their achievements together.
Saturday Art School is part of the IU School of Education Teacher Education Program and all classes are taught by undergraduate art education majors and supervised by Roy Reynolds and Gustave Weltsek.
The cost of the program is $35 per child and includes all materials. A limited number scholarships are available on a first come, first served basis. Reduced cost available for families with more than one child.

Parents and Guardians must escort children to classrooms at the start of class and pick children up from classrooms afterward. We cannot permit children to be dropped off or picked up outside the building. Parking is available at the Jordan Avenue Parking Garage.
For any refund, notification must be made to IU in writing.
No refunds will be provided after the first session on October 19.
No refunds will be given due to canceling for inclement weather. Rather instruction will shift to online for all children that week and ZOOM information will be sent via email that Saturday morning.
Our goal is to build a positive learning community for all children. To achieve this goal, it is important that ALL children respect each other’s space, ideas, and materials. Therefore, if a child’s behavior is preventing the class from developing a positive and supportive learning environment we will contact parents/guardians to discuss options about continuing with the session.
